Historical re-enactments - Historical animation Waterloo

Historical re-enactments

Experience life with the infantry and cavalry on 1 and 2 May. History is brought to life at Waterloo Battlefield with canon fire, infantry parades and cavalry drills!

Enjoy the historical re-enactments at Waterloo Battlefield on 1 and 2 May. Actors in period costumes from all over France and the Netherlands will spend the night in the bivouacs and re-enact the troop movements.

The infantry demonstrations will be performed by the 8th Demi-brigade de ligne and the 2nd Régiment de Chasseurs; the artillery demonstrations by the 6th Régiment d'artillerie; and the cavalry demonstrations by the 2nd Régiment de Dragons. These enthusiasts are involved in many Napoleonic-era re-enactments throughout Europe every year. The soldiers come with their own uniforms and military equipment and the infantry regiments will spend the night in the bivouacs on site.

At the end of the demonstrations, the troops will be delighted to answer your questions and share their passion for history in the outstandingly well-preserved setting of Waterloo Battlefield. These enthusiasts are brimming with stories about the Battle of Waterloo and the life of the troops.  Their work keeps our past alive in the collective conscience, giving young and old the chance to have fun and learn about History in a hands-on way.

The final aspect of the visit is the Battlefield Tour on an off-road truck, giving you a lively commentary on the way the battle unfolded.
